Twitter Reacts As Wriddhiman Saha's Acrobatic Efforts Leave Fans Astonished 1

Momentum swung back and forth in favour of India and Australia as the first day of the opening Test at the MCA Stadium, Pune ended on an even note. After being sent in to bat first, Australia, after kicking off the proceedings steadily, crumbled in the last session of the day before Mitchell Starc emerged as the savior of his team.

The Indian spinners were in the action on a topsy-turvy wicket that offered raging turn and bounce. But it was fast-bowler Umesh Yadav and not the tweakers who landed blows to Australians. He snapped four wickets and ended up as the most successful bowler for India.

Openers David Warner and Matt Renshaw made India work hard in the first session and put up 82 for the first wicket before Warner lost his wicket. The following two sessions of the day weren’t that productive for the Aussies, unfortunately, as Indian bowlers began finding regular gaps before they collapsed to 205/9. India, however, could not bundle out the opposition as Starc played a resilient 57-run knock.

Ironically, it may sound strange, the talking point among fans at stumps wasn’t Umesh Yadav but it was wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha. The reason? The gloveman grabbed a acrobatic one handed catch to make Steve o’keefe depart.

The fourth ball of the 82nd over saw o’keefe trying to cut a short and wide ball hard. Unfortunately, the ball was far from the middle and nicked behind to the keeper at great speed. The delivery was flying away from the wicket-keeper and would have easily made its way through the keeper and first slip. However, Saha put in a brilliant effort and stretched to his right to put an amazing diving effort and pull off the best catch of the season.

Umesh himself was astonished and later expressed that in words during the post-match conference. “That’s exactly what I wanted. (On Saha’s catch) When someone takes a catch like the one Saha took, it helps a bowler immensely. There are very few catches of this kind that are taken because the ball was moving very fast.”

Here is how twitter reacted to that catch:
