IND vs SL, 3rd Test: Twitter Reacts India dominate day two

After the batsmen put India in a commanding position, the bowlers also joined the party, reducing Sri Lanka to 131 for 3 to put the hosts in the driver’s seat after the second day’s play of the third Test in Delhi.

Mohammed Shami gave India a flying start with the ball by dismissing Dimuth Karunaratne off the very first ball of the innings, with a stunning away-swinger that took the outside edge. Ishant Sharma also joined the party soon, removing Dhananjaya de Silva to reduce the visitors to 14 for 2. Makeshift opener Dilruwan Perera and former skipper Angelo Mathews then stopped the rot by sharing a 61-run stand before the former was trapped in front by Ravindra Jadeja.

Skipper Dinesh Chandimal and Mathews then helped the Islanders to see out the day without suffering any further setback by sharing a fifty-plus stand. The visitors were at 131 for three stumps with Mathews batting on 57 and Chandimal on 25.

Earlier, India expectedly began the proceedings with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma punishing the Sri Lankan bowlers to keep the scoreboard ticking at a good rate. Kohli soon scored his second consecutive and sixth Test double century and the first session was looking set to be yield nothing for the visitors before Lakshan Sandakan dismissed Rohit at the stroke of lunch with the scorecard reading 500 for 5.

The session after lunch, however, was full of drama as several visiting players walked out with pollution masks on and appeared to be struggling which caused a couple of lengthy delays. India paid a hefty price for the delays as Ravichandran Ashwin, and Virat Kohli lost their concentration and were dismissed soon after the restart.  The delays  The drama only increased from there as both coaches – Ravi Shastri and Nic Pothas went out on the field to talk to the umpires. With the Sri Lankan players continuing to complain about the pollution, Kohli eventually decided to declare the innings at 536 for 7.
