A fine half-century from Mithali Raj and a disciplined bowling effort from bowlers helped Indian women to beat arch-rivals Pakistan in final of the 2016 ACC Women’s Asia Cup T20 by 17 runs.
Batting first, the Women in Blue scored 121 for 5 in their 20 overs. While the Indian batswomen were struggling to score big, Mithali Raj held firm at one end to ensure India get a decent total to defend. Raj scored 73 while the next top score was 17 runs from Jhulan Goswami. However, the score was enough for Harmanpreet Kaur’s ladies to clinch the title.
Chasing 121, Pakistan were cruising at one stage when they had scored 56 for 2 inside 10 overs but a collapse saw them getting reduced to 81 for 6. With 41 needed in last 4 overs, Nida Dar and Sana Mir could add only 23 runs to hand India their sixth Asia Cup title,
