Azhar Ali made his country’s first day-night Test match a memorable one for himself as well as the country. After becoming the first batsman to score a century in day-night Tests, the Pakistan opener achieved another milestone as he became the first ever batsman to score a triple-century in the latest format of the game. During the innings, he also became the sixth batsman from Pakistan to cross the 4000-run mark in Tests and only the fourth from his country to score a triple-century in Tests.

Pakistan’s limited-overs skipper remained unbeaten on 146 on the first day and took full advantage of a lacklustre bowling performance from West Indies’ bowlers to score his maiden triple-century. The stunning innings of 302 runs was studded with 23 fours and 2 sixes.

Only the second day-night Test in the history of the game, the ongoing Test has been completely different from the inaugural one. The first day-nighter was played in November last year when Australia played New Zealand. Australia won the low-scoring affair on the third day by a narrow three-wicket margin, with Australian wicket-keeper Peter Nevill’s 66 the top individual score. But this time, Pakistan made a huge total and declared after scoring 579 runs for the loss of three wickets.
