England’s bowling sensation Tymal Mills along with the Proteas all-rounder Johan Botha have been roped in by two franchises Kowloon Cantons and Hung Hom JD Jaguars respectively for the Hong Kong T20 Blitz.
Apart from them, Sri Lankan legends Kumar Sangakkara and Tillakaratne Dilshan are believed to have been included too. The tournament is scheduled to be played between March 8 to 12.
Mills, the left-arm seamer, showed a great heart and was impressive in the T20I series against India. Bowling at a fleeting speed of above 90 mph, Mills found success once in all three matches. Destructive with his pace, Mills was equally efficient with the slower ones too, as he dismissed a well settled Yuvraj Singh in the Bengaluru game with a back-of-the-hand slower cutter.
The 24-year-old from Essex said he prefers to play the T20 format, ‘It’s a unique situation that has forced upon me but I am lucky to be doing what I do and everything I do now is great towards becoming the best player in this form of the game.’
“I am delighted to have signed for Kowloon Cantons for the upcoming Hong Kong Blitz. It is great to be involved in such a young tournament that has the potential to grow the game significantly. Looking forward to linking up with the Kowloon Cantons family in March.”
Talking about the all-rounders impact, Trevor Penny, who is a part of Hung Hom JD Jaguars’ coaching staff said, ‘Botha is a wonderful asset to have on any team XI. He can help stall the opposition’s momentum with his economical spells, as well as bolster our team scores with the bat.’
The other teams participating in the tournament are Galaxy Gladiators Lantau, City Kaitak and Hong Kong Island United.
