Ajay Shirke, the current secretary of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to assume the same office for the second consecutive time; he will be elected for the same post at 87th Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is scheduled to be held today in Mumbai. He was the only applicant who applied for this post which means that he had no other competitor in the ring and will be elected unopposed by anyone. “His (Shirke) was the only nomination received today,” the official told PTI on Tuesday.
Shirke was chosen as the BCCI secretary in May 2016 when the current BCCI President, Anurag Thakur was elevated to post of BCCI chief and Shirke was chosen as his successor. It will be the second time when Shirke will assume the same office.
Shirke is a strong businessman in Maharashtra who first entered in the field of administration in the year 2002 with his association with Maharashtra cricket association. He was elected as the President of Maharashtra cricket association in the year 2005. After a period of seven years, he became the honorary treasurer of BCCI in the year 2012/13. When in May 2016 Anurag Thakur was elected as ‘unopposed’ President of BCCI, Shirke succeeded him for the post of BCCI secretary which was previously held by Anurag Thakur .
Shirke has an image of a clean administrator and has often raised voice to bring transparency and accountability in BCCI. He is known to be a close friend of Sharad Pawar, former BCCI President, former Minister in Indian government and former Chef Minister of Maharashtra.
