Parvez Rasool, Unmukt Chand Join Dhaka Premier League

Indian cricketer Parvez Rasool, who went unsold during the Indian Premier League auction in the month of February has joined Dhaka Premier League. Along with him, Unmukt Chand, the former U19 World Cup winning captain has also joined the List A tournament.

Rasool was a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last season of the IPL but was released by the franchise. He made his T20I debut against England in the first T20I in the month of January but surprisingly went unsold in the auction.

He was called for the trials along with Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar by Rising Pune Supergiant franchise to replace injured Ravichandran Ashwin but the franchise went for Sundar.

“It was a decision made purely on cricket perspective. I am a player and want to play at highest level wherever I get the opportunity. Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League is top 50-Over cricket event of Bangladesh. I have already got NOC from BCCI and currently, I am on way to Dhaka,” Parvez told Greater Kashmir on phone from New Delhi Airport.

“It is a high-profile event that attracts some of the known players from around the World. Since 2015, BCCI has also allowed its players to take part in as it is List-A. BCCI doesn’t allow its players to take part in T20 events. Apart from overseas players, there will be a number of Bangladeshi top cricketers so the competition level would be high,” he added.

On the other hand, Unmukt Chand has signed for the Prime Bank Cricket Club. Both Chand and Rasool have played the first game for their teams and scored match-winning half-centuries.

Along with them, players like Yashpal Singh, former Services captain, Puneet Bisht (former Delhi, now J &K player) and Abhishek Nayar have also signed for various franchises. Last year, there was a total of 22 Indian players in the league.

The 22 players who participated in the league were Rajat Bhatia, Dinesh Karthik, Uday Kaul, Manoj Tiwary, Yusuf Pathan, Manvinder Bisla, Yashpal Singh,  Milind Kumar, Puneet Bisht, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Jatin Saxena, Paras Dogra, Rohan Prem,  Pawan Negi, Jalaj Saxena, Ishank Jaggi,  Bipul Sharma, Mithun Manhas, Sachin Rana, Unmukt Chand, Sachin Baby and Ashok Menaria.

As of now, there are only five Indian players who have signed for DPL but we might see many more signings in upcoming days. The List A tournament started from April 12.
