Though people are very aware of things related to cricket in India, other sports don’t get as much exposure. With the current trend in Bollywood to make biopics on sports person, sports person from boxing, races and hockey are becoming common names. We have already seen the success that Mary Kom and Bhag Milkha Bhag got and Bollywood is again ready with its new set of sports biopics. Here are the five upcoming biopics on sports person that are making a buzz in B-town.

5. Dhyanchand

One of the best field hockey players of all time, Dhyanchand made India proud by helping in three consecutive gold medal wins in olympics. In the year 2014, ace fimmaker Karan Johar tweeted of having the rights of ‘the wizard’s story and will soon be making it in reels. Here is the tweet :

rumour has it, Shah Rukh Khan will be seen playing the role of the legendary hockey player. Confirmation is yet to come from the star.

4. Sandeep Singh

Another story on field hockey making its way into the silver screens as Actor Chitrangada Singh plans to turn producer with her project on Sandeep Singh. Singh seemed really interested in the story of the Indian hockey star and promptly planned to make a movie on it. Sandeep was on his way to Germany with the national hockey team while he was shot. Things went worse and he was almost paralysed but beating the odds, he restored his health as well as his position in the team. We hope the comeback comes on screen real soon for all to inspire.

3. Dangal

Not many might be knowing Mahavir Singh Phogat but quite a few quiz masters can recall him as the father of as the father and coach of Geeta Phogat, the first ever woman wrestler from India to qualify for the Olympic games as well as to win a gold at the commonwealth games in the 55 kg freestyle category. Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan will be soon seen playing the role of Mahavir who set an example while coaching both his daughters for wresting. The movie protrays the emotional journey and the equations between the family and has Amir involved in it so much that the actor is believed to put on 22 odd kgs and also learn Haryanvi for the sake of the role.

2. Azhar

Mohammad Azharuddin, a name that when uttered, evokes more controversial memories than a first class career  that it could turn to. A movie that had its trailer released amidst the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 has already been able to grab most people’s attention and is all set to be uncovered in mid 2016. Emraan Hashmi got the opportunity to act as the player himself and is said to be very happy with the experience, though he had conceived some injuries while in attempt to accurate the batting styles of the player. Prachi Desai will be seen as the first wife as Nargis Fakhri would dazzle as Sangeeta Bijlani. 1. M S Dhoni- The untold story

But if we’re talking about the most awaited sports biopic in bollywood, it has to be the one based on current skipper of Indian ODI team Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who has already been acclaimed by the critics for his work in thriller Byomkesh Bakshy, will be playing Dhoni on screen, while Fawad Khan and Arjun Kapoor will be seen as Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. Sushant, just like Emraan, had injured himself while practising the famous Helicopter shot but is on his feet now. The film, scheduled to release in October this year, has been potponed to release next year.
