United States of America (USA) has been awarded One Day International Status for the very first time in their cricketing history after they thrashed Hong Kong by 84 runs in the World Cricket League Division 2 match in Windhoek, Namibia on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Oman who has already won 3 of their 3 games in the tournament so far also bagged ODI status. While Oman has impressed in the last year or so, the emergence of USA is great signs for cricket.

The win against Hong Kong was also Oman’s third win of the tournament in just 4 games. The victory ensured that they will at least finish in the top 4 in the points table.

The top 4 teams in the group stages among Oman, USA, Hong Kong, Namibia, Canada and Papua New Guinea will join Scotland, UAE and Nepal in Cricket World Cup League 2.

The course of the tournament has been pretty topsy turvy. After the loss against Oman by 6 wickets, USA scraped past Namibia by just a couple of runs. Meanwhile, the USA also thrashed Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong by 10 wickets which helped them gain their ODI status. They are all set to meet Canada on 26th April.

The USA is currently leading the points table with 6 points from 4 games. They will be eyeing to finish in top two to ensure they qualify for the final of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Oman also outplayed USA, Canada and Hong Kong in their first three clashes. Ahead of the final, Oman is all set to take on Namibia and Papua New Guinea.
