Former Indian star bowler, Venkatesh Prasad has confirmed that he has applied for the vacant head coach job of Team India.
The 46-year old now joins Ravi Shastri (Former team director) and Sandeep Patil (Current selection committee chief) as the battle for the top job goes three-way.
“I have applied this morning,” Prasad confirmed to PTI today.
Venkatesh Prasad is currently working as the head of BCCI junior selection commitee and wants to get back to coaching duties after a long time.
He has previously worked as the bowling coach for Team India during 2007 to 2009 and also helped India lift T20 World Cup 2007.
Prasad has worked with Royal Challengers Bangalore as the bowling coach in the recently concluded IPL season and have done a great job with an ordinary looking RCB bowling attack which helped them reach the finals. He has also worked with suspended IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings in the past.
It is also learnt that the former Indian international is also comfortable to mentor the bowling of Team India in case if he gets rejected for head coach job.
Venkatesh Prasad is also linked to the vacant bowling coach job for Bangladesh after Heath Streak leaving the job recently. However, he is keen to serve Team India.
He has represented India in 33 Tests and 161 ODIs taking 96 and 196 wickets respectively. He is also very well known for his epic comeback against Aamir Sohail in 1996 World Cup Quarterfinal against Pakistan.
Now the battle for the top coaching role looks very interesting as we have three very good candidates with a lot of potential. It remains to be seen who would clinch the job over the next few days.
