It looks like the decision of a member of Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to hand Zaheer Khan the job of the bowling consultant was taken in arbitration or to make Ravi Shastri feel that the member holds the maximum power in the committee as it is learned that Zaheer will not be available for the full-time job and thus Shastri wants Bharat Arun back as the bowling coach of Indian cricket team.
The member of CAC is already unhappy with Shastri being appointed as Head Coach of Indian cricket team and to now diminish his demands, he has already kept Venkatesh Prasad as standby for the job as if in case Zaheer backs out.
The former Indian pacer, Venkatesh Prasad, had already earlier shown interest to work in any role in the Indian team and CAC knew about this matter. Hence, he was kept as standby. Though Shastri is keen to bring back Bharat Arun, who was there with him in the role from 2014-16.
The ouster of Shastri as the Director of team India saw Arun also be losing his job and the vacancy was left vacant for one year under Anil Kumble. But with Shastri back in the ranks after trumping stalwarts like Virender Sehwag and Tom Moody, it is expected that CAC will accept his recommendation and sooner or later, Bharat Arun will be the man who will find his name on the list of members of backroom staff. Arun, meanwhile, coached Hyderabad cricket team during 2016/17 season.
The onus is now on Zaheer Khan as if he is ready to be with the team at all times and all tours, then BCCI will not need services of Arun or else the former Indian pacer will be back in the ranks.
