Leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed has been included in Victoria’s 12-man squad announced for the finale of Sheffield Shield against South Australia, which is set to be played in Alice Springs from March 26.
The defending champions will look to cement their legacy after roping in an experience customer for the summit clash. Fawad, however, played only one match this season against Western Australia, picking an impressive figure of five for 56. He’ll replace Jackson Coleman in the squad, and is likely to team up with Jon Holland on a surface which is expected to assist spin.
Andrew Lynch, Victoria’s chairman of selectors, said the side is happy to be playing the final again and will look re-write history. Stalwart Cameron White will lead Victoria in the crucial game.
“It’s an amazing achievement to be involved in a third straight Sheffield Shield final, and it’s also a golden opportunity to make history as the first Victorian side to go back-to-back-to-back. Everyone from the players to the coaches have worked incredibly hard to get to this point again, and we also can’t wait to take the final to Alice Springs for the first time. The squad we’ve named will thrive in the conditions at Traeger Park, and hopefully can bring home another title to Victoria.”
Victoria’s squad: Travis Dean, Marcus Harris, Rob Quiney, Aaron Finch, Cameron White (capt), Daniel Christian, Seb Gotch (wk), James Pattinson, Chris Tremain, Scott Boland, Jon Holland, Fawad Ahmed.
