In the game of cricket, every run is important. After all, a single run can make or break a game for a team. Ignoring the opportunities to score runs might cost any team a match and Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq must be well aware of this fact and that is why when Umar Akmal refused to take a run, Misbah gave him an earful.
The incident happened during the final game of the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series played between Pakistan and West Indies in the Caribbean in 2013. Batting first the hosts scored 242 runs in their 50 overs. Chasing the target, Pakistan started brightly as their openers added 51 runs for the first wicket. By the end of 44 overs, Pakistan were 196 for the loss of 4 wickets with 47 runs required from the last 6 overs. Misbah and Akmal were still out there and so the target was within Pakistan’s reach. The fight took place in the 45th over. Dwayne Bravo’s delivery was hit wide of the long on by Misbah. He ran the first run fast and wanted to take the second run only to see Akmal refusing it. The gesture infuriated the captain and he was seen hurling abuses at Akmal. However, the decision did not cost Pakistan much as they went on to win the match with one ball remaining.
