Over the years gone by, Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has been a constant nemesis of the Australian, as the record of the great man against the men from Down Under speaks for itself. Tendulkar was at his supreme best against the Australians as he relished facing some world class bowlers, in daunting conditions that weren’t as easy for any other batsman.
In 39 Test matches against the Kangaroos, Tendulkar aggregated 3630 runs at a superb batting average of 55. But the one aspect which makes Tendulkar’s record so stunning lies in the fact that he piled up 11 fine centuries against this world class team. Scoring 11 Test tons against the world-beating Australian team is a mammoth feat in itself.
On the other hand, India’s current captain Virat Kohli has been in a league of his own against the Australians. Kohli has not just replicated the feats of Sachin Tendulkar but has done so at a far more astonishing rate which stands out as an example for all.
In just the matter of 12 Tests against the Aussies, Kohli has already notched up 12 centuries and has 1276 runs, at a towering average of 60.76. The tour of 2014/15 Down Under pretty much defined the character of Kohli, as the Delhi lad went on to boss Australia with 4 centuries in the four-match series.
One factor, however, which makes Tendulkar superior to Kohli lies in the fact that he faced bowlers of the highest calibre such as Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee, Jason Gillispie, Shane Warne and Merv Hughes. To add to that, Tendulkar also scored his runs on decks that were far juicier and bowler friendly.
Recently, a few Australian cricketers were asked on their take on the Kohli Vs Tendulkar debate. Do check in the video below to find out what they said and who did they pick.
