There is absolutely no denying the fact that a team’s interest is always greater than that of an individual but sometimes when the situation allows then the individual should be given the chance to reach any personal milestone. And one such scenario arose when India were playing against Sri Lanka in 2009. India were in a comfortable position chasing a modest target of 239 posted by the visitors. India needed to score only 7 runs off the last eight overs and Sachin Tendulkar was batting on 91. Tendulkar hit a four off Lasith Malinga, bowling the 43rd over, when India needed seven, then got a single to the third man to give the strike to Dinesh Karthik.
With Sachin Tendulkar needing four more runs to complete his 46th ODI century, the whole country was expecting Karthik to play out the over or give the strike to Tendulkar. However, Karthik surprised everyone when he hit the winning runs — a four — to leave his illustrious partner stranded at an unbeaten 96.
After hitting the four Karthik was seen approaching Sachin to issue an apology but the Master Blaster, who is known for his sportsmanship, did not feel bad at all and was seen handshaking with the young batsman and reportedly told him not to worry as India won the match.
