India and Pakistan share a special rivalry on field. Players of both countries never fail to leave any opportunity to outplay the opposition and emerge as winner in the end. Though numbers show Pakistan have more wins against India in bilateral series’, but in big tournaments, Pakistan are yet to defeat India, be it the T20 World Cup or the 50-over one.
They have been a sloppy side whenever it comes to World Cups. India have always had a psychological advantage over in crucial matches. And just as when the Men in Blue gain upper-hand in an important tie, Pakistan players use uncanny tricks, one of which was seen during the 2010 Asia cup game between them at Dambulla.
India were asked to 268 to seal a spot in final. They were marching towards the target before Kamran Akmal made an appeal for caught behind, trying to convince the umpire that Gambhir had edged the ball. It was somewhat clear that the southpaw hadn’t hit it.
Kamran then started playing mind games and irked Gambhir by teasing him. But Gambhir retaliated with double force and it could have got worse had umpires and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni wouldn’t have come in between. This was the same game where Shoaib Akhtar tried to do the same thing with Harbhajan Singh but the Indian offie smashed him for a six. In fact, Bhajji finished the game with a maximum off Mohammed Amir to guide India to the title clash.
