If anyone thought that Ben Stokes would have well learnt his lessons from the final over of the 2016 World T20, then that individual is bound to be terribly mistaken.
On that eventful night of 3rd April 2016, needing to defend 19 off the last over, Stokes conceded four consecutive sixes to hand the West Indies the crown. That time around, it was Carlos Brathwaite, who emerged as Stokes’ nemesis.
The England all-rounder endured similar emotions at the MCA Stadium in Pune, when Delhi Daredevils all-rounder Chris Morris decimated Stokes in the final over of Delhi’s innings.
With the visitors set for a big score while batting first, it was Stokes’ duty to ensure that a decent final over was executed.
Rather, the million dollar all-rounder was thrashed to all parts of the stadium, as Morris enjoyed his offerings. As many as 23 runs were scored off that final over from Stokes and owing to this, the Delhi Daredevils amassed 76 off the last four overs of the innings.
Morris remained unbeaten on 38 off just nine deliveries, as he played an array of mind-boggling hits into the night sky. With two fours already in the final over, the pressure was on the Durham all-rounder to finish it off well.
Instead, the poor Stokes was belted for a couple of more sixes, making it 23 runs off the final over. The last six on the final delivery of the innings was the biggest of the lot as it cleared the ground.
