Karun Nair has been the talking point of the nation after his maiden triple century against England at Chennai as he managed to break a number of records during the process.
The 25-year old has become only the second Indian ever to achieve the feat after Virender Sehwag as he would be very happy with his parents coming over to watch him play the great knock.
Speaking to ANI, Karun Nair’s father Kaladharan Nair has expressed his happiness over his son’s incredible achievement and admitted they did not think Karun would score a triple hundred.
“I really feel proud of my son who achieved 300, whereas until the morning we didn’t think about that until he scored 200 we did not even think he would score 300. It is a great achievement for all his hard work, from childhood he struggled and today he achieved it,” Kaladharan said.
“We never advise him anything about cricket we only encourage him to play well,” he added.
The swashbuckling innings of Karun Nair meant India are in strong position as they declared at 759/7 making it the highest score ever posted by India in a test match. Karun Nair’s father has also expressed his sympathy on KL Rahul not scoring 200 as the latter was dismissed for 199 yesterday despite scoring his 4th test century.
“They (Karun and Rahul) have been friends from childhood. We felt sad when he didn’t score 200, but for his friend he achieved 300,” he said.
Karun Nair’s mother, Prema Nair, who is a teacher said: “I am very proud. I am feeling as if I am in heaven.”
Karun Nair also became the first Indian player to score a maiden double hundred into triple hundred as he made the most of the opportunity to claim his place in the test squad for the upcoming matches.
