The atmosphere was quite calm and composed at Eden Gardens, both Mohammed Shami and Wriddhiman Saha were adding crucial runs to the team’s total for the last wicket. They had already added 35 crucial runs to their teams total and were looking ahead to somehow cross a total of 350 runs putting pressure on New Zealand bowlers.
Mohammed Shami, who was batting on a total of 14 runs was facing the second last bowl of the 105th over from Trent Boult, bowler surprised Shami by bowling a bouncer to which Shami responded with a pull which was travelling quickly towards the boundary. Shami was confident, the commentators were confident and so were the spectators that it will travel to the boundary safely but immediately everyone saw a man running towards the ball.
Is this Usain Bolt? No. It is the New Zealand bowler Matt Henry who came running towards the bowl, probably faster than Usain Bolt for that particular bunch of seconds, after realising that he will not be able to reach the bowl he dived forward like a Michael Phelps dives in swimming pool without caring about any injury or wound which he can face and Yes! He has caught it. Matt Henry pulled off a ripper to dismiss the last batsman of India, Mohammed Shami and it was the dive which did the trick for him as the dive made the difference in the end.
Everyone in the stadium, the spectators, the commentators, and the players especially, Trent Boult could not believe the scenes what happened in front of his eyes. It was a miraculous show from Henry which lasted just 2-3 seconds but was the highlight of the day, probably the best catch of the year so far.
This marked the end of Indian innings on a total of 315, New Zealand had a poor start as they lost two wickets with a score 21 till lunch with Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar taking a wicket apiece. Team India still leads by a big margin and has a fair chance of enforcing follow-on if they continue to bowl like this.
