South Africa lost two more wickets on the morning session of the day third day. Starting the day 32 for 2 South Africa lost the wicket of Dean Elgar and AB de Villiers.
The pitch is not posing that much threat as the first two days. But, Ashwin is still a clueless to South Africa batsmen.
The rivalry between Ashwin and AB de Villiers spiced up in the morning. In the ninth over of the morning, the contest between AB de Villiers Ashwin was getting juicier. De Villiers was trying to not let the ball spin. He defended the first ball coming the across the line. He stepped out to play the ball as full toss. Truth to be told, de Villiers was looking nervous as Ashwin was not allowing him to find the clue. The South African talisman was shuffling often. Ashwin’s delivery was getting a wide turn.
De Villiers was finding it difficult to play a proper cricketing shot off Ashwin. He was literally danced on the track by Ashwin.
De Villiers tried to outspin Ashwin. He stepped out, but Ashwin pitched the outside leg stump struggling De Villiers blocked the ball with his leg, otherwise he could be stumped by wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha.
However, Ashwin did not have to wait for too long as bemused De Villiers was beaten while playing sharp straighter from Ashwin that turn slightly left and strike on the left foot of De Villiers. Ashwin’s vociferous appeal was accompanied by Indian fielders, Umpire raised his index finger. This is the fourth time de Villiers bamboozled by Ashwin in his career. Ashwin grabbed his wicket in T20 cricket three times while in Test once. However, Ashwin yet to get De Villiers’ wicket in One Day International.
Former Indian batting maestro Sunil Gavaskar said, “Ashwin’s ball to get AB was brilliant. Completely a bowler’s wicket, nothing to do with the pitch.” The former Indian captain further added, “Ashwin has been the pick of the bowlers by far. Flighted the ball, used the crease, varied his length well.”
Ashwin grabbed three wickets in 14 overs and conceded 34 runs. But, Jadeja is yet to get a wicket. He once almost get the wicket of Hashim Amla for a cut shot but was beaten.
Captain Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis are trying to salvage the chase for South Africa. Du Plessis hit one six off Ashwin. However, it will be fascinating to watch for many session South Africa batsmen will manage to defy India. They still need 206 runs with 6 wickets in hand. Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis are batting on 28 and 22 respectively.
