With the test series against New Zealand just a couple of days away, the Indian side is being perceived as the favourites. At home, the Virat Kohli-led Indian outfit has always been a strong one and one can expect this trend to continue for quite some time. During India’s previous test series at home, the Indian spinners were all over the helpless Proteas batsmen and crushed them 3-0.
There are a few unsettling questions in the Indian camp though right now. With Virat Kohli loving to be aggressive and opting for a 6-5 team combination, it’s a clear toss-up between Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara for the middle order slot.
With Pujara taking up a massive double ton in the Duleep Trophy final, and Rohit on the other hand wasting an opportunity in the warm-up game against the Kiwis, the Saurashtra star is likely to get the nod. The two-star batsmen were seen practising the nets together and the BCCI uploaded a video on their official Instagram account. Below, is the video where the two stars are sweating it out in the middle.

According to former Indian batting icon VVS Laxman, it should be Pujara, who should get the nod. “Rohit has to get his game plan right in Tests. You can see in ODIs or T20s, his consistency has a lot to do with the conviction with which he approaches each innings. He lacks that belief in the longer format,” Laxman said.”Given a choice, I would select Pujara. The number of runs he has made in the Duleep Trophy has made his inclusion a certainty . He is the perfect candidate to slot in at No. 3.”
