Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly are one of the most feared openers of all time in ODIs. Opening for India for the first time at Bloemfontein on 23rd January 1997 and after the legendary duo went on to break records one after another.
They hold the world record for the maximum number of runs scored by the opening partnership. They have put together 6,362 runs in 129 matches that include 20 century partnerships and 22 fifty partnerships. The 20 century partnerships for an opening pair is also a world record. Tendulkar and Ganguly complimented each other’s game perfectly.
Such a good partnership on the field was bound to make them great friends off-the field too. The world has witnessed enough incidents which shows the strong bond between them.These two idols of Indian cricket have remained the best of friends even after retiring from thee game.
One such incident of their friendship was witnessed when Ganguly decided to retire from Test Cricket. The former Indian skipper announced after the 4-Test series against Australia in 2008. During the presentation ceremony of Ganguly’s last Test, Sachin Tendulkar was seen crying while Sourav Ganguly was consoling him. The master blaster also left a message in Bengali for Ganguly which roughly translates to ” Heyy buddy, where are you going? I will miss you. Keep smiling.”
