Shreyas Iyer might not have made his debut at Dharamshala in the fourth Test against Australia, but he definitely contributed in a big way for the Indians. The young Mumbai batsman was roped in as a substitute late into the first day when one of the fielders went off the park. With Matthew Wade and Steven O’Keefe forming a stubborn partnership, a wicket seemed to be the need of the hour.
In the 80th over of the game, R. Ashwin bowled a ball pitched on middle and leg to Wade. The southpaw calmly guided it towards the leg side towards square leg. Against an energetic young arm, the run was never on as Iyer was bound to be a fresh fielder unlike the other Indian fielders who were out on the field for an entire day.
Iyer quickly got to the ball and made a near perfect throw to wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha. Iyer’s throw was absolutely on the money as it reached Saha just as he anticipated it and on the bounce. The wicketkeeper then did the rest as he took the bails off the stumps.
Steven O’ Keefe, running towards the danger end was nowhere to be seen in the frame as Iyer’s perfect throw caught him off guard. It was just a formality before Saha whipped the bails off.
Below, is the video of Iyer’s sensational work in the outfield which resulted in a wicket.
