The year 2016 just keeps on getting better for Indian Test captain Virat Kohli. The batting sensation started  the year on a brilliant note with an outstanding performance in an ODI series against Australia. The T20 series against Australia was no different as he kept on piling runs. The terrific form continued  in the Asia Cup too. He ended the ICC World T20 as its  ‘Player of the Tournament’ . In the IPL season that followed, Kohli scored in nearly 1000 runs and blasted a record 4 centuries while also leading his team, Royal Challengers Bangalore, to the final. And it seems Kohli has carried his limited-overs form to the longest format, too, as he scored his maiden Test double century (200) to help India pile on a mammoth 566 for eight against West Indies on day two of the first Test at the Sir Vivian Richards stadium in North Sound.

The double century was also first for Kohli at the First Class level with his previous highest being 197.

Starting the second day on 143, Kohli continued his march without any discomfort at all. First up, he crossed the 150-mark off 208 balls. Then he went past his previous Test highest score of 169 scored against Australia at the MCG in December 2014.
After that he became the first Indian captain to score a Test double-century away from home.

Meanwhile, he received accolades from all corners for the innings. But Kohli would have been really pleased after seeing legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar and head coach Anil Kumble standing up and praise the innings. Gavaskar, who himself had a terrific batting record in the Caribbeans, stood up and warmly applauded the monumental knock . Kumble chose to celebrate the double ton in his own style. The former leg-spinner, who is known for his love to click pictures, was seen capturing the precious moments of Kohli reaching his double ton.

Any expectation of him breaking more records was ended off the second delivery after lunch when he played on to  Shannon Gabriel. The incredible  innings spanned just over six hours and was embellished by 24 fours off 283 deliveries. Fans and Indian dressing room stood up to applaud the knock.
