Video: Virat Kohli Escapes Serious Knee Injury

India were agonisingly close to losing another key member due to injury after their skipper Virat Kohli was seen grimacing in pain following a sliding attempt to save a boundary.

The incident happened in the 104th over of England’s innings when Chris Woakes could only edge a ball past Virat Kohli who was standing in slips. The India skipper, known for his fitness, ran after the ball and after getting close to it, he tried to stop it by sliding across it. However, his left knee got stuck in the turf and he looked in pain thereafter. A chunk of the outfield came off as his knee got stuck into the ground. He was seen holding his head onto his knee as the impact was really painful. The Indian batting mainstay then pulled up his trouser to check on his knee but soon got back to his feet much to the delight of the fans present on the ground.

The commentators compared the situation with the incident that happened with former England bowler Simon Jones at the Gabba in 2002 when he injured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while trying to make a sliding save near the boundary. But fortunately for the Indian team, their batting star did not suffer any injury after the mishap.

Here is a clip of that incident:
