India dominated the first day’s play at the Wankhede as they not only managed an impressive 94 overs in the day, but also restricted the English batsmen to 288/5.
Spinners starred in the day as the dynamic duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja created all sorts of problems for the visitors on a regular basis. However, one of the major things that was observed during the end of the day was Ravindra Jadeja’s appeal for an LBW, where Decision Review System (DRS) yet again came to the spotlight.
The ace spinner caught Ben Stokes plum in front of the stumps but the review was overruled as the impact was Umpire’s call. Despite the improved performance of the DRS, there still seems to be a problem and the hosts are yet to come to terms with the technology.
The ball was pitched outside off before Stokes was caught in front of the stumps and the trajectory showed that the ball hitting the leg-stump.
