Vikram Solanki Replaces Jimmy Adams As FICA President

Federation of International Cricketers Association (FICA), the global representative body of cricketers’ which is based in England, has named former England batsman Vikram Solanki as its president after replacing former West Indies cricketer Jimmy Adams, who had returned home to serve the national board.

“I am privileged to accept the position as FICA President and look forward to having a hands on contribution to the organisation and to the player cause around the world,” Solanki Solanki said in a statement released by FICA.

The decision came after former 49-year-old wicket-keeper batsman JimmyAdams, who succeeded Barry Richards in 2008 as president, was named as the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) Director of Cricket.

The Jamaica-born Adams, who had played 127 ODI and 54 Tests for the West Indies said it was the delightful experience to be the part of FICA while working alongside the professionals of the game.

“It has been an honour to be a part of FICA over a number of years. I am proud of the work FICA does and the direction it is going. It is critical that players have a global voice and FICA will continue to be that voice in the future,” Jimmy revealed.

The Chairman of FICA Tony Irish said we are happy to introduce experienced campaigner in the form of Solanki as organisation’s new president which further will play a huge role in representing the world cricketers.

“We are happy to have secured Vikram Solanki as our new President. Vikram’s [Solanki] background as both an international player and as a player advocate will be a big asset to FICA,” Irish was quoted as saying by FICA’s official website in its release.

The 40-year-old Solanki, who has a law degree on his back, is also working as an assistant coach for English County side Surrey.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of ensuring that the players’ voices are heard and that they are involved in shaping the future of the global game,” Solanki asserted.

Coming from the vast amount of cricketing experience at the domestic level, the Udaipur-born Solanki in 2009 had also served England-based Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) as its chairman.

“It is an important time for cricket, for FICA and for the players it represents,” Solanki remarked.

After making an international debut for England, Solanki played 51 One-day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals for. He has amassed 1,155 and has also picked a wicket with his off-spin bowling.

Solanki last played his international game in 2007 against South Africa in Durban.

In 325 first-class games for Worcestershire, Solanki had scored 18,359 runs at an average of 32.39 which further included 34 hundreds and 98 fifties.
