Dale Steyn has been around for quite a while and has done enough to be considered a legend. The South African pacer has been an icon in the modern day game and his exploits have surely made him a legend in the current arena. Steyn, on his day, is magical to say the least as he gets the ball to talk viciously and is a serious nightmare for any batsman. Even some great and renowned batsmen have struggled against the sheer charisma of this South African.
However, things haven’t been smooth for Steyn since the last couple of years. After struggling from injuries and an indifferent form, he was overlooked by the South African selectors for the tri series in the Caribbean. Fair to assert, in his absence, the Proteas struggled miserably and couldn’t even make it to the final. With a home test series against New Zealand on cards, Steyn was eager to be match fit and in full rhythm.
To do so, the pacer signed up for the Caribbean Premier League and is currently representing the Jamaica Tallahwahs. So far, Steyn’s campaign has been phenomenal, as he has picked up 12 wickets in just 7 games.
In his side’s game against the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Steyn set up New Zealand opener Martin Guptill with three gems. The first one swung away from Guptill, who left it as it is. The second delivery too moved a tad away from the Kiwi. This was just a ploy by Steyn to setup Guptill as he cunningly bowled the third one just outside the off stump, trapping the New Zealander.
Guptill was lured into the drive and committed the fatal error of chasing the delivery. As a result, he got a thick edge and the wicketkeeper did the rest. It was a fine display by Steyn, who made it clear that despite his recent poor form, he was still a force to reckon with.
