Virat ‘The King’ Kohli Is The Cristiano Ronaldo Of Cricket: Nasser Hussain
As Harsha Bhogle tweeted, ‘Just another day at office for Virat Kohli. Brushed his teeth, had a shower, breakfast and a century in a chase‘, Sunday was indeed one of them. In a monumental run-chase of 351 in Pune, Virat Kohli pulled off yet another stunner and brought up his 27th hundred to help India draw first blood in the three-match series.
Referring to the Delhi lad’s 17th ODI century in successful run-chases, former England captain Nasser Hussain called Kohli the ‘Cristiano Ronaldo‘ of cricket, given the Portuguese international tops the list of Virat’s favorite footballer.
During the first One-Dayer, Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav stitched together a 200-run partnership for the fifth-wicket, which helped India gain momentum after being reduced for 63 for four early on.
Speaking to Sky Sports post the match, Hussain was in all praise for the flamboyant right-hander, comparing him to 2016/17 Ballon D’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, saying both the global athletes have one thing in common, pushing themselves to greater heights and raising the bar every-time they step on the field.
“I think what Kohli is trying to do is push the boundary and raise the bar of everything he does. No-one says to him ‘being captain in three forms is too much for you’, no one says ‘you can chase 300 but can you chase 350 from 63-4?”
“I read out here that he prefers [Cristiano] Ronaldo to [Lionel] Messi. Messi was given a lot of natural ability but he prefers Ronaldo, who has made himself the footballer that he is and pushed himself on and off football pitch — and that is what Kohli has done in cricketing terms.”
Not only him, his former team-mate and captain of England Michael Vaughan tweeted calling Virat Kohli the best batsman across all formats.
