Kohli

Indian skipper is in fantastic form at the moment, and there is no way you can stop him. The Delhi-born star slammed yet another double century against the Sri Lankans at the Indian capital following his double ton at Nagpur. The exquisite stroke player has proved to be the undisputed champion in world cricket and is setting benchmarks for all the others to watch and learn.

On completing today’s double century, Virat Kohli came at par with some elites and came close to shattering a few more records. The batsman with fire in his belly equalled Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag’s record of most double centuries by an Indian. However, Kohli reached his 6th double century in much lesser innings than both the legends in the name of Tendulkar and Sehwag did.

Kohli also broke his way through in the prestigious list of most double centuries scored by cricketers in a calendar year. Though he was already on the list before, he became the only batsman to have his name on the list twice.

Former Aussie captain Michael Clarke tops the list with four double centuries which he scored in 2012. The right-handed blonde had a magnificent season in 2012 which also included a triple ton against the Indians. His 329 run knock against the men in blue remains the highest Test score in his illustrious career.

Kohli now has three double centuries each in 2016 and 2017 which brings him parallel to some huge names such as Sir Donald Bradman, Ricky Ponting and Brendon McCullum. While the legendary Don smashed his 3 in the year of 1930, Ricky Ponting made it in 2003, the year the Aussies win the ICC Cricket World Cup. Kiwi icon Brendon McCullum entered the list in 2014.

Kohli has a fair amount of chance to equal the record set by Michael Clarke with the season still left. And with the excellent form he is in, Virat Kohli is not only bent towards breaking this record but many more.

Most Double Centuries in a calendar year:

Michael Clarke – 4 (2012) Virat Kohli – 3 (2016) Virat Kohli – 3 (2017) Don Bradman – 3 (1930) Brendon McCullum – 3 (2014) Ricky Ponting – 3 (2003)
