Virat Kohli, Anil Kumble Demand Pay Hike, MS Dhoni Only Exception In Group A

Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli have asked for a pay hike in salaries of Indian cricketers in front of Committee of Administrators (COA) ahead of the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The meeting was also attended by BCCI CEO Rahul Johri, Joint Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary.

As per the proposal, the hike will be in accordance with the group players are placed in. Players in Group A are or basically, Test players are proposed to receive the highest hike followed by players in group B, who mainly play ODIs followed by Group C players, comprising of T20 regulars.

A hike of 150% has been proposed by these two for players in Group A which means that the seven players barring MS will be entitled to an amount of 5 Crore rather than two crores. But it is to be noted that BCCI had earlier already doubled up the amount players receive and also match fees to 15 Lakhs from 7 Lakhs per Test match.

MS Dhoni is an exception in Group A as he has retired from Test cricket and will not be entitled to receive benefits which other players in Group A will receive.

Further, Kumble proposed a hike of 30% for himself. At present, Kumble is one of the highest paid coaches with a salary of 6 Crores and post this hike, his services will cost BCCI around Rs. 8 Crore.

The proposals have been made after few of the former international cricketers raised voice regarding pay hike for Indian cricketers, who get paid quite low as compared to Australian cricketers, despite the fact that BCCI is the richest cricket body. Ravi Shastri termed the salary of Indian cricketers as ‘Peanuts’.

COA and BCCI are yet to take a call on the offer proposed by these two.
