Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi had definitely caught the eye of Indian media after his outrageous tweet on Kashmir.

The 38-year old Afridi had called upon United Nations (UN) and other international bodies – to stop the ‘bloodshed’ in the region.

Ever since the independence of the two countries in 1947, Kashmir has been the bone of contention between the neighbours.

However, with time the region slowly became stable and have become an integral part of the country over the decades.

But Afridi’s comments on Kashmir has drawn plenty of criticism from numerous celebrities. Gautam Gambhir was one of the first to lambast Afridi, Suresh Raina has also pitched in his voice earlier today (April 4).

The comments Afridi made in his tweet are: Appalling and worrisome situation ongoing in the Indian Occupied Kashmir. Innocents being shot down by oppressive regime to clamp voice of self-determination & independence. Wonder where is the @UN & other int bodies & why aren’t they making efforts to stop this bloodshed?

Virat Kohli diplomatic as ever

When asked by media about the comments made by Afridi, Virat Kohli said: “As an Indian, you want to express what is best for your nation & my interests are always for the benefit of our nation. If anything opposes it, I would never support it for sure.”

“But having said that, it’s a very personal choice for someone to comment about certain issues. Unless I have total knowledge of the issues and the intricacies of it I don’t engage in it but definitely, your priority stays with your nation.”

The Indian skipper Kohli had remained diplomatic in the way he dealt with the media.

However, the comments are definitely becoming louder and viral across India. They are drawing views from various celebrities across different professions.

India’s World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev said, “Who is he? Why are we giving importance to him? We should not be giving importance to certain people.”

The heat of the moment is surely catching with the cricketers across both the countries.

Shahid Afridi’s selection of words has seen a severe backlash from his Indian counterparts. It remains as for a pertinent question when the war of words will calm down in near future.
