As far as batting is concerned, we all thought that the golden era of the Indian cricket team would struggle with the retirement of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. We all thought there would not be anybody who would recreate the magic with the bat as four of these high profile cricketers did.
But we all have been proved wrong by one man and that man is the current Indian team skipper Virat Kohli. The batter emerged into the scenes after a successful 2007/08 under 19 world cup where he captained his side to glory. It did not take him much time after that to get his way into the senior team and is doing justice to the selectors ever since.

The boy from Delhi is now the skipper of the Indian cricket team and also the talisman of the same. He has been scoring runs at wish and smashing records now and then. Virat has been a nightmare to the bowlers and has a wonderful technique. In such a short time he has smashed 51 hundreds, and if he continues to play like this, it would not be wrong to say that Kohli would surpass Sachin’s record of 100 international centuries.
Apart from Kohli, the following are other batsmen to reach 16000 runs in international cricket in increasing order to the innings they have played:
1- 350 Virat Kohli
2- 363 Hashim Amla
3- 374 Brian Lara
4- 376 Sachin Tendulkar
Kohli has been in outstanding form in the ongoing test series against Sri Lanka and has now completed 16000 international runs which is quite a thing to be proud of. He is also the fastest to achieve this landmark which says a lot about the kind of form he is in. It took him just 350 innings to reach 16,000 runs. He has now also faced 20,000 balls now in international cricket and seems to get better with every ball.
No wonder that the 29-year-old is regarded as one of the best of this generation. We as Indian fans would like to see him break more such records shortly and lead India to glory in every match that he features in.
