Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli was charged a whopping Rs. 24,00,000 (USD 36,000 roughly) for his team’s slow over rate, in their encounter last night against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. This is Kohli’s second overrate offence this season, and another such offence will lead to his suspension for one match. The remaining members of the Royal Challengers Bangalore were charged Rs. 6, 00,000 each.
Kohli was not just the lone individual to be fined for an offence. His rival skipper, Gautam Gambhir too was fined 15% of his match fees for “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match”. Gambhir was found guilty of the offence after he was spotted kicking a chair in the Knight Riders dugout as his side inched closer to victory.
It was an unreal run chase from the Knight Riders last evening, as they scored as many as 81 runs in the last 6 overs to chase down the total put on board by the Royal Challengers. The stand between Andre Russell and Yusuf Pathan was undoubtedly the partnership of the season, as the two went berserk and deposited the Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers to all parts of the stadium.
In the penultimate over of the game, when batsman Suryakumar Yadav swept Tabraiz Shamsi for a boundary, an ecstatic Gambhir was witnessed kicking the chair in his team’s dugout and made his emotions clear. This act ultimately led to him being fined 15% of his match fees.
