Video : Virat Kohli Has Fun on the Field as Commentators Burst Laughing During 5th Day of the First Test

The first test in England’s long tour of India ended in an exciting fashion as the hosts were seen saving their wickets right at the end on day-5.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 49 while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja managed to stay not out on 32 as the duo stitched a decent partnership at the end to ensure that the visitors do not take anything away from the game.

Though the Indian team was in fine form against New Zealand recently, they were the second best in most departments in this game and it would have been frustrating for the captain to scramble for a draw on the last day.

However, Kohli managed to keep his cool and played a superb innings as he reassured the Indian team that they can bounce back in the next game.

Though it was a tiring day for the batsmen, Kohli was found enjoying the challenge, as he always does and took it on himself to ride his team home.

He was often seen having some fun on the field and one here is one incident that got even the commentators laughing in the final session.

The pitch started deteriorating and Kohli and co. found it hard to stay at the crease when Zafar Ansari, the young left-arm spinner produced one of the deliveries of the game.

In the 41st over, the spinner got the ball to bounce viciously off a good length and though Kohli managed to keep his edge away from the ball, it was just an indication of how hard the task was at his hands.

But Kohli, unfazed with all that is going on, took a moment and brought some smiles even on the umpires.

Ansari’s delivery was so vicious that it took over and went above the shoulder level for Kohli who was quick to ask the umpires if it was the counted as the first bouncer in the over.

Here is the full incident:

Chris Gaffaney and Kumar Dharamasena were the two on-field officials for this game and Kohli turned to the former who was at square leg before also enquiring the same with Dharamasena at the non-striker’s end.

After a huge smile, Gaffaney indeed called it one for the over which saw the Kohli and the entire commentary team burst into laughter.

Nasser Hussain, Ravi Shastri, and Michael Atherton were quick to spot it and had a good time talking about it.

Hussain said, “Just shows how clear his (Virat Kohli’s) mind is when batting. It goes past his shoulder and immediately he says it must be one for the over, with the laugh. And the umpire gave it.”

“Lovely, lovely. Kohli immediately looks at the square leg,” said former England skipper Atherton.

“He can see the funny side. That’s great. Especially when there’s so much pressure,” Shastri said.

Though there was not much positive to take from this game for India, they will know that Kohli’s form and his unfazed attitude will help them throughout their series.
