Team India suffered a big injury scare during the second ODI at Rajkot as Rohit Sharma injured his left shoulder. The fielder found himself in an awkward position after diving and left the field in pain. He could not collect the ball as well, which further added to the anxiousness among the fans but looks like he is fine to participate in the third ODI.
India captain Virat Kohli, on Friday, gave an update on Rohit’s fitness and said that there is no tear in Rohit’s shoulder, which will mean that he will back for the third ODI. “I asked Rohit briefly just now. It’s that left shoulder which has popped out a few times. There’s no tear, nothing serious there. So hopefully he gets back for the next game,” Kohli said in the presentation ceremony.
Rohit hasn’t got big scores in the series so far but remains to be a key player for Men in Blue. He had ended the year 2019 as the highest run-scorer and will hope to get a big score in the third ODI. Team India’s success heavily relies on Rohit and he will have to make sure that he does get a big score.
With a win in Rajkot, India levelled the series 1-1. Asked to bat first, the home team got a good to start as Rohit (42) and Shikhar Dhawan (96) put up 81 runs for the first wicket. Virat Kohli (78) and KL Rahul (80) got also racked up big scores to help the home team register a total of 340 on the board.
Chasing the target, Australia did lose early wicket of David Warner but were back on track. The 96-run third-wicket partnership between Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne raised hopes for the visitors but spinners did the magic in the middle overs to spin the game in India’s favour.
Australia were bowled out for 304 in 49.1 overs, losing the game by 36 runs. The third ODI of the series takes place in Bengaluru on Sunday.
