Virat Kohli Gives Priority to the Test Cricket: MSK Prasad

By quite a distance, Team India skipper Virat Kohli is leading his team while leaving an impact as a skipper apart from his batting belligerence. The top-order batsman has helped his side to scale summit while relying on hard work with some sheer aggression. According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI), chief of the selectors MSK Prasad stated Kohli has had set the pinnacle of the Test cricket while accrediting his skills as a team leader. Prasad further praised Kohli’s resilience with the bat.

The 43-year-old former cricketer Prasad reiterated Kohli had prioritised the traditional format at a time when the professional leagues took the centre stage.

With the surge of shortest version fixtures, Kohli recently on record suggested the youngsters should also set focus on the Test fold.

“He has raised the Test standards with his exceptional skill as a player and aa s leader. He gives priority to Test cricket. Especially at a time when world cricket is moving towards the shorter versions of the game,” MSK Prasad told SportStar.

Prasad believes Kohli has proved his mettle by producing results in the best possible way. Prasad remarked there is nothing a partial way in a bid to succeed in the results.

“The first and foremost point about this team is that it has a leader in Virat Kohli who doesn’t leave any stone unturned to win a game. There are no half-measures about the efforts this team puts in,” Prasad said.

Under Kohli’s captaincy, the No.1 Test team has recently thrashed Australia in the four-match Test series 2-1, before clinching the three-match One-day International (ODI) series 2-1.

Furthermore, Prasad admitted the fact that Kohli has improved a lot with every game. He stated that Kohli has done an outstanding job as a leader in England and South Africa respectively.

Prasad has hailed Kohli for being a remarkable captain and the top-notch player.

Prasad remarked Indian unit has done wonders across formats as the players have set the standards of fielding high.

“Moreover, this is a fit team, very good in fielding and catching too and has excelled in all three departments of the game,” Prasad further added.

Also, Prasad stated with India losing the games; it has further brushed Kohli’s leadership skills under the carpet. However, the recent Down Under show has set him apart.

“With every passing game, we can see the growing maturity of Virat. Virat led extremely well in South Africa and England too. Unfortunately, the losses obscured his good leadership skills. But this series victory in Australia has put him on a higher plane as a leader. Personally, I feel Virat is one of the greatest captain-cum-players around,” Prasad further added.

Also, while moving to Kiwis shores, Kohli’s Men in Blue scripted 4-1 win in the five-match ODI series. But they lost the three-match T20I series 2-1 when Rohit Sharma led India in the absence of Kohli.

Before culminating, Prasad said the trend has changed as the combination of bowlers is capable enough to bag 20 wickets.

Earlier, as per Prasad, the team in the Test fold has relied more on batsmen, in a bid to seal the series.

“Earlier, we were always a team that used to bank upon our batsmen to win a series. Now, we have a team that has both fast bowlers and spinners who can pick 20 wickets a Test match on any surface and against any side in the world,” Prasad concluded.

Concurrently, Kohli’s is leading India in the ongoing limited-overs series against Australia.
