Mohammed Shami has been one of the notable performers for the Indian National Cricket team in the past 12 months. Speaking on his spectacular comeback, Shami hailed his skipper Virat Kohli for always allowing his players to express themselves and implement their own plan.

The Bengal pacer has done a remarkable job in the last few months, and in the process, cementing a World Cup berth. However, Mohammed Shami was not in the scene a few months ago as well. He turned heads with his man of the series performance against Australia as the men in blues scripted a historic series win. He kept up the good work against New Zealand as well and has emerged as India’s second choice fast bowler in the playing XI.

Speaking on his performance after the New Zealand tour, coach Ravi Shastri said the Shami has been a revelation in the last five months. On the other hand, Virat Kohli admitted that he has not seen Mohammed Shami hungrier for success. Shami also complimented back his skipper saying he allows to set your own field.

“Virat lets you implement your own plan. If it backfires then you can always fall back on the skipper’s idea. He gives bowler the freedom to set his own field,” Shami said to Aaj Tak.

He tells you that while batting, nobody instructs him about the shots he should play. So the same thing should apply to the bowlers as well. I really appreciate his way of thinking,” he added.

My rhythm is great now: Shami

The cricketing pundits have tipped the current Indian bowling setup as the most lethal in the world. They will play a significant role in the upcoming premier tournament. With the World Cup in sight, Mohammed Shami said that he is adding more thing to his armoury which will be useful during the ICC World Cup. The 28-year-old cricketer lost a few kgs and now looks a lot fitter which has helped him improve his bowling.

However, Shami was out for from the limited-overs side for almost two years and has come back with a bang. With the ICC World Cup in less than two months, Mohammed Shami said he is working on every aspect to improve his game.

“My rhythm is great right now. Everything, be it training, fitness, skill, on-field execution and performance, everything is as per the expectations. However, I want to add something more to it which could be useful for the team during the World Cup. I had not played ODI or T20s for almost two years. That was a long time. Now, I am working on improving every aspect,” Shami concluded.
