Ravi Shastri, in an interview with BCCI.tv, has said that Virat Kohli has now become ‘ Leader of Men’ . Also, he praised both Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan, who both showed a different aspect of their batting. Rahane played attacking cricket in the 4th Test match and scored two centuries in the last Test match, whereas Dhawan applied himself and looked to spend time on the crease.
However, even after the series win against South Africa, Shastri admitted that Indian players need to work on playing quality spinners. He added that a major reason affecting their play against spin is the lack of domestic cricket, which is all due to the packed International calendar. He added that the footwork and the overall strategy against the spinners has to improve on the turning tracks.
India has had quite good number of foreign tours in the past two years and once they come back to India, the home conditions turns to become alien for them, added Shastri. He added that they way Rahane bounced back after failing in the first three Test matches needs to be complemented. Shastri also revealed that he personally told Dhawan that his 20s and 30s in the 4th Test match were decent contributions considering the pitch.
This is not the first time when Shastri has openly come out to praise Kohli’s captaincy. He added that Kohli is pro active and communicative and that is what one wants to see in a captain.
