According to a report, Team India skipper Virat Kohli and world-class bowler Jasprit Bumrah will rest for the One-day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) series respectively against the Windies. The limited-overs series will commence from August 3 with the first match of the three-match T20I series. The Central Broward Regional Park will host the first game.
However, the duo will partake in the two-match Test series on the Caribbean shores.
It’s pertinent to mention that the multi-day tournament will be a part of the maiden edition of the World Test Championship.
The duo has been remarkable for the national team while leaving an impact.
According to a senior Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official, Kohli and Bumrah will be rested for the Windies limited-overs competition. On conditions of anonymity, the BCCI said the move will be taken in a bid to manage the workload.
However, the official added that the duo will partake in the Test leg.
“Virat and Jasprit will certainly be rested for the three-match T20Is and three-match ODI series. Virat has been playing since the start of Australia series and Bumrah’s workload management is also paramount. They will join the team before the Test series,” a senior BCCI official told PTI.
Also, it’s expected that a couple of other players will be rested following the culmination of the ICC World Cup 2019.
Given the condition of the finale, if India will feature at Lord’s on July 14, then the situation would be decided according to a requirement.
The two-match Test series will begin on August 22 in Antigua. The official reiterated that some key players would get enough time to start off fresh for the traditional series.
“With the first Test in Antigua starting August 22, there would be enough time for the key members in the World Cup squad to get much-needed rest,” the official added.
Kohli and Bumrah will join the team ahead of a three-day practice game. The practice matches will run August 17 and 19.
Earlier, following the consultation between the Cricket Windies and BCCI, the itinerary has witnessed a change. It meant the Test series will commence following the limited-overs leg.
Thus, Prithvi Shaw, Hanuma Vihari and Mayank Agarwal will partake in India’s A games against the Windies.
As per a report Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar might feature in the T20I leg.
