Will MSK Prasad continue the tenure of chief selector is still not known. The picture will get clear on 1st December in the Annual General meeting. The chief selector has always been in news for his logic of selecting players in India national cricket team.
He has been majorly criticised for selecting Vijay Shankar over Ambati Rayudu for the No.4 batting spot in the Indian team during for the ICC World Cup 2019.
Recently, MSK Prasad was also criticised for his statement regarding MS Dhoni. He stated that the team is moving on from Dhoni and will focus on new talent. In an interview, he clears all the allegations which were made during his tenure.
MSK Prasad on the selection of Playing XI
The squad is selected by the selectors but the playing XI is selected by the team management. According to MSK Prasad statement, there was no such restriction in the selection, the selectors’ view was also considered.
The chief selector said that he doesn’t want to comment on the selection procedure. He said that he had faith in the decisions that the team management took.
“I don’t want to talk too much about those two things but all I can say is that there were some constitutional changes that were made at that time with regards to selectors playing a role in picking the playing XI on tour. But we had to show faith in the decisions that the team management took at that point in time.” MSK Prasad said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo
Relation with Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni
In 2016, MSK Prasad was appointed as the chief selector of the Indian men’s team. He has spent the time with the former Indian captain MS Dhoni as well as present captain Virat Kohli. Prasad said that Virat and Dhoni respect him.
“During this tenure, I used to take advice from legendary cricketers which helped. My relationship with MSD (MS Dhoni) and (Virat) Kohli are intact. People might write anything but when I speak to them, I know how much they respect me.” he added.
