Indian skipper Virat Kohli delivered a big surprise during the presentation ceremony after the second T20I of the series against Sri Lanka. During the post-match presentation, Kohli mentioned the name of pacer Prasidh Krishna as a surprise package for T20 World Cup that is to be played later this year. Prasidh is a right-arm pacer from Karnataka who rose to fame while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL. He is still a part of the two-time champions.
“You’ll have to figure out who are the people that are very similar in their bowling skills, and you pick the senior one. I think one guy will be a surprise package going to Australia, someone who can bowl with pace and has bounced. Prasidh Krishna has done well in the domestic arena as well. This group of bowlers, it is a great luxury to have in all formats. Looking at the big World Cup, we have enough options,” Kohli had said on Tuesday.
Prasidh has played six first-class, 41 List A and 28 T20 matches so far. He has 20 wickets in the longest format, 67 scalps in List A format and 24 wickets in the shortest format. He was roped in by KKR in IPL 2018 as a replacement for Kamlesh Nagarkoti.
The 23-year-old scalped 10 wickets in seven matches that season. In IPL 2019, he struggled for wickets and managed four scalps in 11 matches.
Prasidh is a tall pacer and bowls at a good pace. With Kohli mentioning his name, Prasidh will likely be part of the T20I squad for the series against New Zealand which takes place later this month. He has been part of India A squad in past.
Prasidh has also trained at MRF pace foundation and also has been to Australia, where he trained under legend Jeff Thomson.
The selection meeting for the upcoming New Zealand tour is set to take place on January 12 and Prasidh leads the race to be part of the squad, along with Jasprit Bumrah, Navdeep Saini, ShardulThakur and Mohammed Shami.
