Virat Kohli Needs To Improve As Captain: Shahid Afridi
Following India’s loss in the first T20I against Australia, former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi feels Virat Kohli needs to improve as skipper.
India were the firm favourites to win the first T20I against Australia. Both the teams had entered the series-opener on the back of some contrasting fortunes.
Australia had their task cut out as the odds were firmly stacked against them. While India entered the game on the back of a thumping series win over reigning T2o World champions Windies, Australia lost to South Africa at home.

Prior to that, the team from Down Under had suffered a crushing 3-0 loss at the hands of Pakistan at UAE. With Steve Smith and David Warner also not in the team due to the bans and India flying high, Aaron Finch & Co. had a big task ahead of them.
However, the hosts passed the test with flying colours, beating India by four runs in the thriller.
And while one should not undermine Australia’s performance with both bat and ball, there is no denying that they were helped by some poor decisions by the Indian camp. Virat Kohli’s decision to play with Krunal Pandya instead of Yuzvendra Chahal backfired. Krunal ended up conceding 55 runs off his four overs. Kohli also promoted KL Rahul at number three and it backfired too.

And Shahid Afridi feels Kohli needs to improve as captain.
“Virat Kohli is one of my favourite players but he needs to improve as a captain,” Shahid Afridi told Times Now.
“India-Australia series is going to be a very exciting contest and this Indian team has what it takes to beat Australia in Australia but the team needs to play together,” he added.
On the other hand , former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar felt that under no circumstance should Kohli have handed the No.3 slot to Rahul in the opening game of the series.
“I don’t think Kohli should have batted at No.4. In the first match of the tour, you want to bat on the position you generally bat on. It is only when you have won a series, you take such chances,” Gavaskar said in the post-match show.

Former Australia skipper Michael Clarke echoed the sentiments and said:
“Virat Kohli is that batsman who can come in, take a few balls and bat till the end and win you games. I would want to see him bat up the order at No.3. He can even open but not go down the order.”
The second game of the series will be played at the MCG on Friday.
