Virat Kohli On The Verge Of Breaking Sourav Ganguly’s Record
The momentum will be firmly in India’s favour when they take on Australian in the fourth and final Test. The Virat Kohli-led side had thrashed the hosts by 137 runs in the third Test at the MCG to take an unassailable lead in the four-match series. The win had also helped India retain the Border-Gavaskar series.
All eyes will be now on the upcoming Sydney Test as Australia aim to bounce back from the heavy defeat while high-flying India aim to create history by winning a Test series in Australia for the very first time. And a win in Sydney will help Virat Kohli create a record too. Another win will help Kohli become the most successful Indian skipper in away matches. Kohli has led India to 11 victories outside India and is currently tied with Sourav Ganguly for the record. Remarkably, Kohli took only 24 games to win 11 games outside India while Ganguly took 28 for the same. MS Dhoni had managed to win just six games in 30 overseas Tests, while Rahul Dravid had won five in 17.
Kohli, meanwhile, also leads the way in terms of having the best win percentage among Indian captains in Test cricket. He has won 26 out of the 45 matches he has captained to take his winning percentage to 57.78. Second to him is Dhoni with 27 wins out of 60 Tests and a win percentage of 45.
India have done exceedingly well under Kohli’s captaincy. In 2018, India recorded a Test win each in South Africa and England but went on to lose both the series. A 2-1 loss in South Africa was followed by a 4-1 thumping on the summer tour of England. However, a win or a draw in Sydney will mark a historic first series victory in Australia for an Indian side.
The much-awaited fourth and final Test gets underway on January 3 in Sydney.
