There is always a race going between Indian skipper Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma for the leading run-scorer in the T20I format. Kohli currently leads that contest as he has 2745 runs whereas Rohit has 2648 runs in the shortest format of the game. However, there is one more battle for which both of these talisman players compete with each other.

That battle is of leading catches in the T20I fold for the Indian team. Virat Kohli took two catches while Rohit Sharma grabbed one in the second T20I against New Zealand at Eden Park, Auckland, in which the visitors won convincingly by seven wickets.

Kohli continues to impress.

Kohli took his catches tally to 41 whereas Rohit Sharma has galloped 39 catches in the shortest format of the game. Thus, the Indian captain overtook Rohit Sharma’s tally of catches. Meanwhile, out of favor, Suresh Raina has taken 42 catches in the T20I format.

Kohli took a simple catch to get rid of New Zealand opener Martin Guptill when the right-hander looked to hit a big shot but could not get his timing right against Shardul Thakur.

The Indian captain took another good grab when he dived forward to sent back the other Kiwis opener Colin Munro. However, Kohli spilled one simple catch of Ross Taylor and had he taken he would have been leveled with Suresh Raina.

However, the drop didn’t cost India much as Rohit Sharma took a good high catch to dismiss Ross Taylor on the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah.

Hence, India was able to restrict New Zealand to 132 and chased down the target with ease after KL Rahul scored a fine knock of 57 runs. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he took two wickets and conceded only 18 runs in his quota of four overs.
