Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma Overtake Sachin Tendulkar-Virender Sehwag Record

Amidst rifts off the field, the partnership between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma looks quite strong on the field. They surpassed the record of Virender Sehwag-Sachin Tendulkar by registering the most number of 50+ partnerships in ODI format of the game for the Indian National Cricket Team.

On Sunday, against West Indies in the second ODI, they have registered a 50-run-stand and have surpassed Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag to register the most number of fifty-run-stands for India in ODI cricket. Kohli and Rohit have 32-fifty-run-stands whereas Sachin and Sehwag have one less.

Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma stitched 32nd Fifty Partnership:

Batting first, India lost opener Shikhar Dhawan in the very first over. Then Kohli and Rohit, who were in the news for all the wrong reasons – including a reported split – added 74 runs for the second wicket to steady the Indian innings.

This was their 32 such stand in ODI cricket, which is one more than what Tendulkar and Sehwag have managed together. But leading the charts for India are Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar, who have 55.

Though Rohit Sharma failed to continue, Virat Kohli smashed a brilliant century.  He was constantly getting those 70’s and 80’s during the ICC World Cup 2019 but unfortunately, failed to get the three-digit figure. He finally got that against Windies on Sunday night.

In the World Cup, he smashed five consecutive fifties but failed to convert it into centuries. Heading into the second ODI at Port of Spain, Kohli’s last ton had come five months ago against Australia in Ranchi.

However, Kohli overcame the conditions and blasted his 42nd century to help India reach a good total. He broke plenty of records in the process, going past Sourav Ganguly’s tally of 11363 runs in ODIs and also becoming the first player in history to score 2000 runs and hit 200 fours against the West Indies.

Most 50-plus stands in ODIs for India:

55 – Sourav Ganguly/Sachin Tendulkar
31 – Virender Sehwag/Sachin Tendulkar
