Long-time Rajasthan Royals (RR) cricketer Ajinkya Rahane can be seen in Delhi Capitals’ (DC) jersey in the next IPL season. The Delhi franchise has recently shown a high-interest in Rahane.
Since the IPL 2011 season, Ajinkya Rahane is serving for the Rajasthan franchise, except 2016 and 2017 when the side was serving its suspension period. Rahane started his IPL career for Mumbai Indians (MI) where he spent from 2008 to 2010 season. In 2016 and 2017 season, he served for now-defunct IPL side Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS).
Rahane is the most run-scorer for Rajasthan Royals. After playing 106 matches for this side, Rahane has scored 3,098 runs with an average of 35.60. He has hit two centuries and 21 half-centuries for this side. Meanwhile, he has scored 2,810 IPL runs for this side in 100 IPL matches (average 34.26). Rahane has also led this side 24 IPL matches.
Delhi Capitals have now shown their interest in this Indian cricketer. Though it is an early stage as the talks are going on, the Delhi franchise is very serious on this move.
Recently, a source told IANS, “Yes, DC is trying to get Rahane onboard, but too early to say if the deal will see the light of the day. A lot of things need to be taken care of before the dotted line is signed. RR’s take on the whole issue can also not be discounted since he has been a huge ambassador for them. But yes, talks are on.”
Ajinkya Rahane can provide the proper balance in the Delhi Capitals
The Delhi franchise newly shaped up ahead of the IPL 2019. As JSW joined in the ownership role of this franchise, it became Delhi Capitals from Delhi Daredevils. Later, they made some crucial changes inside the team, both in players and coaching staffs.
In result, after a long time, the Delhi franchise performed positively in the IPL 2019. They qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2012 edition. Finally, the Delhi Capitals ended their journey in that tournament after losing the Qualifier 2 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
The Delhi franchise believes that Rahane’s inclusion will provide the right balance in the side. In the last season, Shikhar Dhawan returned in this franchise from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) while they also bought the experienced pacer, Ishant Sharma.
The source added, “The side has attempted to get the right balance between youth and experience and what Rahane brings to the table isn’t something one needs to talk about. It is there for all to see. Dhawan and Ishant Sharma showed what having experienced heads in the dug-out means when the situation is tough and this could be a dream move if sealed.”
In overall IPL career, Ajinkya Rahane has played 140 matches where he has scored 3,820 runs with an average of 32.93. Apart from two IPL centuries, Rahane has also registered 27 half-centuries in this tournament history. In IPL history, Rahane is the 11th most run-scorer.
