People will get one more reason to compare Virat Kohli with batting legend Sachin Tendulkar as the RCB captain is all set to break Sachin Tendulkar’s IPL record set as captain of the Mumbai Indians franchise.
The RCB captain is 67 runs short of reaching the 500-run mark in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League and if he scores the 67 runs, the Delhi batsman will become the first captain to score over 500 runs in three seasons of the IPL.
Former Mumbai Indians skipper Tendulkar achieved this feat on two occasions.
The way RCB are playing in this season it looks tough for them to qualify for the playoffs but still, Kohli will get at least five games to score the necessary 67 runs. Kohli is in phenomenal form with the bat and holds the Orange Cap for being the highest run-getter in IPL 2016 with 433 runs – so breaking Tendulkar’s record should be an easy job for him.
As Mumbai Indians’ captain, Tendulkar scored over 500 runs in two editions of the IPL-618 in 2010 and 553 in 2011. Kohli achieved this feat too – 634 in 2013 and 505 in 2015.
Kohli’s 634 is the highest runs ever scored by a captain in IPL and so he can also make a new record- highest runs scored by a captain in one season.
Two other captains have also crossed the 500 run barrier in the IPL, Gautam Gambhir as KKR skipper in 2012, scoring 590 runs in 17 matches while Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner achieved the feat in 2015 with 562 runs in 14 games.
