Virat Kohli Strengthens His Position At The Top Of The ICC ODI Rankings

India skipper Virat Kohli has strengthened his position at the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Ranking following five consecutive centuries in the ICC World Cup 2019. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma’s brilliant run in the marquee event saw him bridge the gap between him and Kohli in the rankings.

Virat Kohli has scored 442 runs at an average of 63.14 have seen him gain one point and reach 891 points. On the other hand, vice-captain Rohit Sharma’s five centuries in the World Cup has helped him reduce the point difference in the latest update. Rohit has bridged the gap from 51 points to only six after becoming the first batsman to score five centuries in the World Cup. His 885 points going into the semi-finals are a career-high.

Pakistan’s Babar Azam has also moved up to the third place, just behind his career-high second place achieved in June 2018. Australia’s David Warner has made a stunning comeback to the international cricket scoring 638 runs in nine matches which have seen him occupy the sixth spot in the ranking list. Furthermore, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has slotted back in the top ten after his consistent run in the World Cup. England openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow have both risen in the rankings with Roy reaching a career-best 13th place.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah has extended his lead at the top of the bowler’s list from 21 to 56 points with Trent Boult remaining in second place. Afghanistan spinners Mujeeb-ur-Rahman and Rashid Khan remain in the top-10 despite their team losing all matches, while Australia’s Mitchell Starc and Mohammad Amir have improved. Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, and Shaheen Afridi have also witnessed significant progress in the latest rankings.
