David Warner Expecting To Be A Part Of The IPL 2022 Mega Auction

David Warner is the top run-scorer in the IPL history so far among the foreign players. The left-hander has notched 5449 runs from 150 matches at an average of 41.59 and a strike rate of 139.96. However, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Suresh Raina are leading the charts in the list of all-time leading run-scorers in the IPL.

In fact, the Australia opener has gotten the most half-centuries in the IPL, as many as 50. After playing a few seasons for the Delhi Daredevils, now Delhi Capitals, he went on to ply his trade for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. David Warner tasted a chunk of his IPL success for the Orange Army and won the Orange Cap quite a few times. In 2016, he also captained them to their maiden IPL title, beating Virat Kohli’s RCB.

David Warner Had A Poor IPL 2021 For Which He Was Stripped Of Captaincy And Lost His Place In The Sunrisers Hyderabad Team

Former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner was released by the franchise despite his stellar campaign in the T20I World Cup 2021, where he bagged the Player of the Tournament award for 289 runs in seven matches for Australia. IPL 2021 has been the Australian’s worst season ever with just 195 runs in 8 games, with two fifties, averaging 24.38, and striking at 107.73.

However, 2021 turned out to be a season equivalent to a nightmare for him. Neither could he shine as a skipper, nor could he weave magic with the bat in hand. In the first leg of the IPL in India, David Warner lost captaincy after which Kane Williamson was appointed as their skipper.

Thereafter, David Warner also lost his place from the eleven after which Jason Roy was included. Jason Roy played 5 IPL games for SRH in IPL 2021 and scored 150 runs averaging 30. SRH had a woeful campaign in IPL 2021, winning only three matches and finishing at the bottom of the points table.

David Warner Thanked SRH Franchise And Is Expecting To Be A Part Of The IPL 2022 Mega Auction

Despite being a stalwart for them, the Sunrisers Hyderabad didn’t retain David Warner, quite expectedly. In the meantime, David Warner also opened up on his future in the cash-rich tournament. One of the fans, recently, asked him about his plans regarding the T20 league.

Warner bro what’s up about IPL,” the fan wrote.

The veteran Australian opener reverted and said that he’s expecting to be a part of the mega auction.

“Auction I guess,” Warner replied.

Earlier, SRH posted a message, bidding farewell to their players. David Warner didn’t miss out on dropping in his words on the social media platform.

“Thanks to all of you for your support over the years, up and downs, my family and I can’t stress enough how much we appreciated the love and passion you showed towards us and the team. Candice and I truly wish all the fans the very best for the future and hope whoever you wish to support the best. Love the Warner’s,” Warner said while responding to a post by SRH.

Last week, SRH retained Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad, and Umran Malik ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. SRH paid Rs 14 crores to New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson followed by Rs 4 crores each to uncapped Jammu and Kashmir talents Abdul Samad and Umran Malik. Meanwhile, David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were also released along with Rashid Khan.

David Warner Says No To Captain SRH Again In IPL 2022

David Warner’s infamous fallout with the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise has all but marked his association with the IPL franchise. But that has not stopped the fans from hoping that perhaps one day the two parties will reunite. David Warner joined SRH back in 2014 and served the team for eight long years, but things went awry between the two when SRH stripped the Australian opener of captaincy and later dropped him from the Playing XI, picking Jason Roy instead of him.
In the T20I World Cup 2021, David Warner opened the batting. The charismatic New South Welshman amassed an impressive 289 runs, including a blistering 53 off 38 balls in the final to help the Aussies successfully chase down 172 against New Zealand. He finished the tournament as the second-leading run-scorer behind Pakistan’s Babar Azam (303 runs).

David Warner Reacts Negatively When Asked By A Fan To Captain SRH Again In IPL 2022 Under Tom Moody

Although there has been no official word from the franchise about releasing David Warner in IPL 2022, a social media post shortly after the conclusion of the IPL 2021 hinted that the batter has parted ways with the franchise.
Ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, as teams gear up to finalize the list of retained players, there are certain speculations that suggest that there might just be a tiny ray of hope to watch David Warner and SRH get back together. However, as far as David Warner is concerned, he has nothing to do with SRH.

On an SRH fan page on Instagram called ‘WeAreOrangeArmy’, when a fan mentioned the prospect of Tom Moody coaching and Warner captaining the side, to which Warner put in a prompt two-word reply: “No thanks.”

SRH endured a forgettable campaign in IPL 2021, finishing with the wooden spoon. In the first half, after losing five matches out of seven, David Warner was removed as captain of the side and replaced by Kane Williamson.

IPL 2021 has been the Australian’s worst season ever with just 195 runs in 8 games, with two fifties, averaging 24.38, and striking at 107.73. As the IPL 2021 season resumed in UAE, the Aussie opener featured in the first two games for SRH but aggregated just 2 runs.

David Warner Even Led SRH To A Title In 2016 And Won Orange Cap Thrice All With Sunrisers Hyderabad

However, the change in guard couldn’t help much in turning the fortunes of the franchise as the team slipped to the bottom of the table. David Warner was subsequently dropped but returned for the first two matches of the second phase. However, following scores of 0 and 2, David Warner never made it back to the Playing XI and even stayed back at the hotel for a couple of matches.

David Warner is still the only player to win the IPL Orange Cap three times, and with SRH on all occasions. He even led SRH to an IPL title in 2016 and holds the record for the second-most runs in a single edition of the IPL (848 in 2017) after Virat Kohli’s 873 runs in 2016.

He has been SRH’s star opener for a number of years, having carried the weight of a fragile middle order single-handedly. He was the Orange Cap winner in 2015, 2017, and 2019, having amassed 4014 runs in 95 games for the franchise at a whopping average of 49.56 and striking at 142.59.

He is still the IPL’s 5th highest scorer, having amassed 5449 runs in 150 games averaging 41.59 with 4 tons and 50 fifties. He has hit the maximum number of the fifties in IPL history. David Warner led SRH to their maiden IPL title in 2016 as they defeated Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final by eight runs.

Eoin Morgan Feels Eye Catching T10 Format Can Be Played In Olympics

Eoin Morgan feels the Olympics is a huge opportunity to grow the game of cricket by including the T10 format in the showpiece event.

England skipper Eoin Morgan came out in support of the T10 format being included in the Olympic Games as the 10-over game is a sort of “eye-catching entertainment” and is fan-friendly too.

Eoin Morgan Is A Huge Fan Of T10 And Wants The Format To Be Included In The  Olympics

In addition to numerous modern-day tried and tested white-ball players, namely Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Eoin Morgan, Moeen Ali, Chris Jordan, Faf du Plessis, T10 League 2021 comprises four retired Indian cricketers in Yusuf Pathan, Munaf Patel, Abhimanyu Mithun and Yo Mahesh (157 domestic matches across formats).

“I am not actually quite sure because I am always trying to bring in new ideas and grow the game even bigger. The Olympics is a huge opportunity to do that. Ever since I have played T10, it’s sort of eye-catching entertainment because I am a huge fan,” said Morgan on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi T10 League where he is playing for Delhi Bulls.

“All my family and friends watch the game and they go out and come back and watch another game. It’s very fan-friendly and if you are looking to sell our game to people who haven’t watched cricket before, I think it’s a really flexible way to do that.”

“Introduce them to watch different formats and I haven’t found a better way than T10 for a format to play in the Olympics,” he added.

Delhi Bulls have won all their three games in the ongoing T10 League, and Eoin Morgan feels the team can go on to win the title this year.

“We have a strong team and missing Jason Roy obviously hurts us. We have plenty of talent and are looking forward to it,” said Morgan.

Earlier this year, the ICC had confirmed that it will bid for cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Eoin Morgan: Dwayne Bravo Will Be Key To Delhi Bull’s Success

The England skipper, who is playing under the leadership of T20 legend Dwayne Bravo, feels the former West Indies all-rounder will be a key player if Delhi Bulls win the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

“I think it will be huge, Bravo is one of the most experienced T20 cricketers in the world if not the most, you think how long he has been around and how many games he has played,” said Morgan.

“The biggest factor that he is a winner and won competitions around the world and won the T20 World Cup as well, so he is going to be essential and hopefully achieving success,” he signed off.

Eoin Morgan believes that the T10 format of cricket is an eye-catching entertainment, and it can be played in the Olympics. Morgan, who is currently plying his trade for Delhi Bulls in T10 League 2021-22, lauded Dwayne Bravo and feels that the veteran all-rounder can lead the team to a title win.

The Abu Dhabi T10 cricket league is a 10-over format game, and six teams, namely Deccan Gladiators, Chennai Braves, Team Abu Dhabi, Bangla Tigers, Northern Warriors, and Delhi Bulls, are competing with each other in the tournament. The 2021-22 edition, which started on November 19, will take place for 15 days, and the summit clash will be held on December 4.

Gautam Gambhir Feels SRH’s Job Is To Win Matches Not Give Farewells

Gautam Gambhir doesn’t feel David Warner should return purely on the basis of a ‘farewell match’. The talks of David Warner getting a recall for Sunrisers Hyderabad’s match against Mumbai Indians are raging on the internet.

David Warner could feature for SRH in their final match against MI. David Warner hasn’t featured for SRH in the last 4 games but could return against MI on Friday. The match has been labelled as David Warner’s ‘farewell’ at Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, the Australian dashing opener is neither expected to be retained by the franchise nor likely to draw bids in IPL 2022 auction.

Gautam Gambhir Doesn’t Understand Farewells As Gautam Gambhir Feels SRH’s Job Is To Win Matches, Not Give Farewells

As Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) gear up for their final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 campaign, talks of David Warner potentially getting a recall are raging on the internet. While there’s no denying that England opener Jason Roy has dislodged David Warner at the top of the batting order, many reckon if David Warner would be given a possible farewell match. However, former India cricketer, Gautam Gambhir, isn’t on board with the idea.

With the race for the playoffs well over for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the past few matches have been quite inconsequential as far as their fate for the season is concerned. Friday’s match against Mumbai Indians (MI) would be no different. In such a scenario, the sentiments of fans and David Warner’s relationship with the franchise could see the Australian opener making a return.

Gautam Gambhir said that he doesn’t believe in farewell matches, and hence, David Warner should only make a return if he is a part of the team’s best XI. Gautam Gambhir mentioned that it is not mandatory to be presenting farewell to the legends of the game, and he wanted SRH to pick a playing XI through which they can win the game.

“See, a lot of great players didn’t get farewells. We all know that even some legends didn’t, although legend is a big word. I don’t understand this system of farewells. Ultimately, you are playing to win the match. If your best playing XI includes him, then absolutely give him a chance. If not, then absolutely don’t give him a chance. As simple as it gets. SunRisers’ job is to win matches and not give farewells,” said the cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir.

David Warner has been SRH’s captain for a long time and also the only man to have led the franchise to an IPL title (in 2016). With a few orange caps to his name too, he has unarguably been one of the finest batters in the Indian Premier League history. However, the season 2021 has been quite contrasting for the southpaw.

David Warner Had A Poor IPL 2021

A string of unimpressive performances saw him being stripped of captaincy responsibility and being dropped to the bench. David Warner returned to feature for SRH in the franchise’s first two matches of the UAE leg before being snubbed for the remaining four.

In all likeliness, the IPL 2021 season will be the last for David Warner in SRH colours. However, with the next season set to see a mega auction take place, the chances of David Warner being retained or bought in the auction remain relatively slim.

David Warner’s relationship with SRH unravelled quite stunningly over the course of IPL 2021. The left-handed opener, who scored in excess of 500 runs in six consecutive IPL seasons for the franchise besides taking them to multiple playoffs and a title triumph in 2016, was stripped of his leadership duties during the first leg. In addition to that, David Warner was also dropped from SRH’s playing XI.

As the IPL 2021 season resumed in UAE, David Warner featured in the first two games for SRH but aggregated just 2 runs. IPL 2021 has been his worst season ever with just 195 runs in 8 games, with two fifties, averaging 24.38, and striking at 107.73.

Umran Malik Clocks 153 Kph Against RCB, The Fastest Delivery Of IPL 2021

Umran Malik, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) pace sensation has said that bowling fast comes naturally to him, and ever since the onset, he has bowled quickly to disrupt the batters’ concentration.

SRH pacer Umran Malik clocked 153kph to bowl the fastest delivery of IPL 2021 against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday. Umran Malik achieved this feat in the 4th delivery of the 9th over against Devdutt Padikkal. The RCB batsman got the outside edge and scored a run on the fastest delivery of IPL 2021.

Umran Malik Said Former Pacer Irfan Pathan Told Him He Can Improve

Roped in as a replacement for injured and Covid-19 affected T Natarajan, Umran Malik has been one of the very few positives for the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise in an otherwise forgettable campaign.

After making noise against Kolkata Knight Riders with his searing pace, Umran Malik went a step ahead against RCB as he clocked at 153kmph in the ninth over while delivering to RCB opener Devdutt Padikkal. Umran Malik was warmed up nicely, having delivered the previous three deliveries at 147, 150 and 152kmph, respectively. With a 153kmph thunderbolt, he bettered Lockie Ferguson’s 152.75 km record for the current season.

“From the very starting, I used to bowl fast. When I played cricket with Cosco ball, I used to bowl fast then also. We used to play one over matches and I used to run in and bowl fast yorkers. In 2018, U-19 trials came and I was bowling, the selectors saw me. I was bowling with jogger shoes, then my friend gave me spike shoes and I then came into the U-19 team. Then I played Under-23 cricket,” Umran Malik told teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar in a video posted on iplt20.com.

“In 2018, I was practicing regularly. After Under-23, I played Vijay Hazare and Ranji Trophy. I thank the SRH franchise for giving me an opportunity. Irfan Pathan came and he told me where I can improve. I was scared at first when I had to bowl to Warner and Williamson in the nets. I prayed to God that I just bowl good balls. I kept on learning and this has helped me,” he added.

Against KKR, debutant Umran Malik, 21, clocked 151.03 km ph (93.84 mph), the fastest delivery by an Indian pacer this season of IPL 2021. Also, 11 out of his 24 legitimate deliveries against KKR were above 145 km ph (90mph).

Umran Malik Was Determined To Pick Up His Maiden Wicket Against RCB

A spirited bowling performance saw Kane Williamson-led SRH defeat RCB by four runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Wednesday. Bhuvneshwar Kumar defended 13 off the final over to help his side register a thrilling victory.

“I was determined to take a wicket against RCB and I just wanted to take a wicket,” said Umran Malik.

Umran Malik began by hitting 141kph and conceded just a single off his first four deliveries. The fifth one produced a wicket, KS Bharat caught behind a searing short ball.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Earlier, Jason Roy played a knock of 44 runs as SRH posted a total of 141/7 in the allotted twenty overs. For RCB, Harshal Patel returned with the figures of 3-33. SunRisers Hyderabad will next take on Mumbai Indians on Friday at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

With 13 needed off the last over, bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, AB de Villiers drilled the fourth ball for six but fell short in the end. The defeat means Royal Challengers’ chances of finishing inside the top two in the points table are effectively over, as the eliminated Sunrisers Hyderabad pinched their third win of the season following contributions from almost all their bowlers, and batsmen Jason Roy and Kane Williamson.

Sunrisers Hyderabad 141 for 7 (Roy 44, Harshal 3-33, Christian 2-14) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 137 for 6 (Padikkal 41, Maxwell 40, Malik 1-21) by four runs

Australia Working To Be Flexible And Practical To Ensure Ashes 2021/22 Go Ahead: Greg Hunt

Greg Hunt, the Australian health minister, said that their government is working to be “flexible and practical” to ensure the Ashes 2021/22 can go ahead. Still, the fate of the series ultimately lies in the hands of the touring party.

Australia has been “flexible and practical” to ensure that the England men’s cricket team will tour the country for the Ashes, but the fate of the series lies in the hands of the touring party, health minister Greg Hunt said on Tuesday.

Greg Hunt: Ashes 2021/22 Happening Lies In The Hands Of England, But Australia Are Working To Be Flexible And Practical

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement that it will decide this week whether the proposed arrangements in Australia are sufficient for the Ashes 2021/22 tour to go ahead. Greg Hunt said Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and sports minister Richard Colbeck had been working day and night with their British counterparts to ensure the series, which starts on December 8 in Brisbane, happens.

“Ultimately, it’s always in the hands of the touring party, but we’ve been working to be flexible and practical,” Greg Hunt told Sky News Australia on Tuesday.

England and Wales Cricket Board

“On the one hand, make sure that we have safety arrangements for Australia. On the other hand, to be practical and flexible to give that touring party every chance of coming here and to have the Ashes played this summer,” said Greg Hunt.

England captain Joe Root and other players have expressed doubts about the tour due to “bubble fatigue” and concerns their families will not be able to travel with them due to Australia’s strict COVID-19 protocols. As reported by local media, the five-Test series pours about 200 million AUD into Cricket Australia (CA) coffers through broadcast, sponsorship, and ticketing.

Australia’s health minister Greg Hunt said that the government is doing everything to ensure that England’s team can come and play the Ashes in December this year.

Cricket Australia Negotiating With England and Wales Cricket Board Over The Past 6 Months To Ensure Health And Wellbeing Of Both Squads

CA has been negotiating with authorities and the ECB over travel conditions and whether players’ families can visit during the Christmas and New Year periods.

“We have had regular and positive discussions with the ECB over the past six months on providing conditions which will allow players from both teams to perform at their best during the Ashes summer,” CA said in a statement.

“The health and wellbeing of both squads while ensuring the tour proceeds in a safe manner is a priority and we especially thank our government partners for all their support in this regard.”

Australia has strict limits on international arrivals and charges people thousands of dollars to isolate in designated quarantine hotels for a mandatory 14 days, regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status. ECB said on Monday that its decision later this week could hinge on whether it can select a squad “befitting a series of this significance”.

“Later this week the ECB Board will meet to decide whether the conditions in place are sufficient for the Tour to go ahead and enable the selection of a squad befitting a series of this significance,” it said.

England and Wales Cricket Board warned the forthcoming Ashes 2021/22 will only go ahead if ECB can pick a squad “befitting a series of this significance”. The future of the Ashes tour will be settled by the end of this week.

The players and the England and Wales Cricket Board met over the weekend with representatives of Cricket Australia to discuss Covid-19  arrangements for the tour.  The players have been given the rest of the week to decide their availability, with doubts still existing over the strict quarantine rules for families and the strictness of the bubble once the team leaves quarantine.

England’s multi-format players, such as Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Mark Wood, Sam Curran, and Chris Woakes, wouldn’t be willing to spend up about four months away from their families as they will fly to Australia straight from the UAE, where the T20 World Cup will be held.
Moeen Ali, Sam Curran,  Tom Curran, George Garton, Eoin Morgan, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Liam Livingstone, Sam Billings, and Jason Roy are the England players participating in the UAE leg of IPL 2021.

IPL 2021: David Warner Posted A Cryptic Instagram Message After Facing SRH Axe

David Warner’s fall from grace in the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has been quite drastic. From winning the 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL) title with the franchise to helping them qualify for playoffs the following seasons, the Australian opener has played a key role in the team’s success.

The IPL 2021 season, however, has been quite contrasting for David Warner. Stripped off from captaincy responsibility in the first half of the season and phased out of the team in the second half, the opener posted a cryptic message on Instagram amid his current situation in the team.

David Warner Posted A Cryptic Instagram Message

Reports of David Warner being shown the exit door by the franchise owners have been surfacing for a while. The Australian opener isn’t even travelling with the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad to the stadiums for matches. After being left in the team hotel for the second consecutive game, the Australian dashing opener seemed to have taken a swipe at the team management.

He wrote in an Instagram story: “It’s not about who is real to you face. It’s about who stays real behind your back.”

As the IPL 2021 season resumed in UAE, David Warner featured in the first two games for SRH but aggregated just 2 runs. IPL 2021 has been his worst season ever with just 195 runs in 8 games, with two fifties, averaging 24.38, and striking at 107.73.

Sunrisers Hyderabad managed a decent win against Rajasthan Royals on Monday but couldn’t carry the momentum against Chennai Super Kings. They lost the game by 6 wickets in Sharjah on Thursday, becoming the first team to be knocked out this season.

Jason Roy Played Instead Of David Warner And Scored A Fifty In A Win Against Rajasthan Royals

He was then dropped from the squad, with England opener Jason Roy taking his place in the team. Making his debut for the Sunrisers, in the match against Rajasthan Royals as David Warner’s replacement, Jason Roy slammed a match-winning half-century for the team to help them secure only their second win of the season.

Jason Roy opened for the Sunrisers again on Thursday against Chennai Super Kings but couldn’t repeat his performance from the last match as SRH also suffered a defeat. However, despite there being three games to go in the league stage of the campaign, there seems to be no hope of David Warner’s comeback.

There are suggestions that David Warner’s love affair with Sunrisers Hyderabad is already over. With the 2022 season set to see a mega auction, it is all but certain that David Warner will not be retained by the Sunrisers nor is he expected to receive any bids from the SRH owners.

As things stand at the moment, the Sunrisers Hyderabad are languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2021 points table with just two wins to their name in 11 matches. They were also the first ones among 8 franchises to drop out of contention for playoffs qualification this season.

David Warner has been SRH’s star opener for a number of years, having carried the weight of a fragile middle order single-handedly. He was the Orange Cap winner in 2015, 2017, and 2019, having amassed 4014 runs in 95 games for the franchise at a whopping average of 49.56 and striking at 142.59.

He is still the IPL’s 5th highest scorer having amassed 5449 runs in 150 games averaging 41.59 with 4 tons and 50 fifties. He has hit the maximum number of the fifties in IPL history.

Sunil Gavaskar And Kevin Pietersen Praised MS Dhoni Who Showed Glimpses Of Return To Form

Sunil Gavaskar, former Indian legendary batsman, and former England batsman Kevin Pietersen praised Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni for his performance, with the latter even saying MS Dhoni’s return to form is a big worry for other teams.

In the all-important match against bottom-ranked Sunrisers Hyderabad, MS Dhoni came to bat at a stage when CSK still needed 26 runs to win in just about four overs. Former captains, Sunil Gavaskar and Kevin Pietersen relished MS Dhoni’s heroics against SRH as they looked back to the MS Dhoni of the old.

Sunil Gavaskar: MS Dhoni Does Take The Game Into The Last Over Often And Then Win The Game For CSK

CSK beat SRH by 6 wickets to book a place in the playoffs, while Sunrisers became the first team to be knocked out of IPL 2021, officially. Sunil Gavaskar and Kevin Pietersen praised MS Dhoni for his performance.

“He (Dhoni) does it so often. He takes it into the last over. When the supporters are biting the nail – they also know he is going to do it. But that anxiety, that you feel. He has done it so many times in his career,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports after the match.

Once again, in typical MS Dhoni fashion, the CSK skipper stretched the match to the final over, and just when it looked like the match may go to a Super Over, MS Dhoni finished off the game with his signature six-off SRH pacer Siddarth Kaul. While Sunil Gavaskar said, MS Dhoni does it often taking the game deep into the last over, Kevin Pietersen reckoned this should scare oppositions.

Kevin Pietersen: MS Dhoni Hasn’t Been In The Form For Two Seasons

MS Dhoni scored exactly 200 runs in IPL 2020, averaging a below-par 25 while managing only 66 runs in IPL 2021 in 10 games averaging a dismal 13.2. His strike rate is also below 120 in both editions. But he scored an unbeaten 14 off only 11 balls including 1 four and 1 six showing that he can still perform as a batsman.

Chennai Super Kings is the second most successful team in the history of IPL, with 3 titles under their belt, only 2 behind Mumbai  Indians (5 titles). But arguably they are the most consistent team in the IPL. CSK has been involved in 8 finals and qualified for playoffs 10 times, only missing out in 2020 while the side was suspended for two years in 2016 & 2017.

“Dhoni has done it for so many years, he keeps doing it and doing it and doing it. What he has done now, should strike fear into the opposition,” Kevin Pietersen added.

“He has not been in the form for two seasons, so if he starts doing that nowhere, then, goodness, they got one hand on the trophy, they really do. They are serious out, on these conditions that are really good. They got the Hazlewood effect, and the Jadeja effect, and the openers have been really good. So, if Dhoni starts coming off now, finishes games off, then others team have a problem. Scary proposition,” he signed off.

Josh Hazlewood thrived at the death, picking up two wickets in three balls besides picking Jason Roy early. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s (45 off 38) 75-run partnership with Faf du Plessis (41 off 36) broke the back of a small chase and ensured even a little hiccup towards the end – three wickets in eight balls – didn’t matter. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of CSK bowlers returning with figures of 3/24 while Dwayne Bravo picked 2 scalps conceding 17 runs.

Chennai Super Kings 139 for 4 (Gaikwad 45, du Plessis 41, Holder 3-27) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 134 for 7 (Saha 44, Hazlewood 3-24, Bravo 2-17) by six wickets

David Warner Wasn’t The Only Experienced SRH Player At Hotel: Trevor Bayliss

David Warner’s replacement Jason Roy provided the spark for their chase of the Rajasthan Royals’ total of 164 with a 42-ball 60. Captain Kane Williamson saw the team through with an unbeaten 51 off 41 balls.

However, ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s clash against Rajasthan Royals, much of the chatter revolved around the future of Australian dashing opener David Warner in the SRH set-up, given his paltry returns this season. IPL 2021 has been David Warner’s worst season ever with just 195 runs in 8 games, with two fifties, averaging 24.38 and striking at 107.73.

David Warner Was Not Even In The Ground For SRH Management’s Decision To Get Youngsters Playing: Trevor Bayliss

David Warner, who was axed from captaincy duties earlier in the Indian leg of the season and was dropped in the last match in India but was given another go when the tournament moved to the UAE.

However, with scores of 0 and 2, it was an expected move for David Warner to be replaced at the top in favour of Jason Roy, who was waiting for his opportunity on the sidelines. However, on Monday (September 27), David Warner was not even at the ground with the squad.

“We can’t make the finals, so we made a decision to get the youngsters to experience not just the matches, but time around the ground and around the set-up. And for this match we made a decision…he wasn’t the only experienced player that we’d left back at the hotel,” said Trevor Bayliss of Warner’s absence after the game.

“We’ve had a number of young players who haven’t even been to the ground, even our reserves, we wanted to give them the opportunity to come along and experience a game. That might continue for a few more games. We don’t know… we’ve got to sit down in a day or two and pick a team and pick a squad of 18. That’s just the way it is. Dave’s obviously watching the game at the hotel and giving his support to the boys. Just like everyone else. We’re all in this together.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Trevor Bayliss said a struggling David Warner was dropped from the playing squad against Rajasthan Royals to give the youngsters in the side a chance as they are already out of contention for a playoff berth in the Indian Premier League.

Trevor Bayliss Said SRH Yet To Decide David Warner’s Place In The Franchise

David Warner has been SRH’s star opener for a number of years, having carried the weight of a fragile middle order single-handedly. He was the Orange Cap winner in 2015, 2017 and 2019, having amassed 4014 runs in 95 games for the franchise at a whopping average of 49.56 and striking at 142.59.

When asked whether this was the beginning of the end for Warner at SRH, Bayliss said: “Look, that certainly hasn’t been discussed. This is the last year before the mega auction, those decisions will be made further down the line. He’s been a great contributor to Hyderabad for a number of years now and he’s very well-respected. And with the number of runs he’s scored, I’m sure he’s got a lot more runs in him in the IPL.”

SRH beat RR by seven wickets, riding on half-centuries from opener Jason Roy and skipper Kane Williamson on Monday night after the team management decided to leave out star Australian Warner who has been struggling for form. RR made three changes to their team as Jaydev Unadkat, Evin Lewis and Chris Morris replaced injured Kartik Tyagi, David Miller and Tabraiz Shamsi.

SRH, on the other hand, made four changes as Jason Roy made his SRH debut, while Priyam Garg, Abhishek Sharma and Siddarth Kaul came into the team in place of David Warner, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav and an injured Khaleel Ahmed.
